“Every Rose Has its Thorn” was released in 1988 on Poison’s album, “Open Up And Say…Ah!”. It spent three weeks at number on the U.S. billboard charts.
According to Poison’s lead singer Bret Michaels, the song, written in a laundry mat, was a heartfelt response to a botched love affair with a stripper.

Thanks heap for the great comment, I think that the strumming pattern is esential especially when you are a beginner because that is what I found difficult to work out when I first started, whereas the chord progression is usually realtively easy to find.
