I made some mistakes so I edited and reloaded
There is no best way to play any music
That is the beauty of it
Strum with or without a pick
whatever sounds best to your ears

You need to build speed slowly
with short 5 to 10 minute practice sessions
that is what worked for me
I would also just strum away with no chords
while watching TV
