Released on the “Are You Experienced” LP in 1967, “Purple Haze” was the follow-up hit to Jimi’s debut song “Hey Joe”.
Many believe that this song is about drugs and it may be but according to Jimi the song was inspired by a dream whereby he was walking under the sea surrounded by purple haze.
An interesting fact about the song is that it contains one of the most misheard lyrical lines ever, that being “scuse me while I kiss the sky” interpreted as “scuse me while I kiss this guy.” Hendrix himself helped to add the confusion by sometimes during a live show singing it that way and pointing to one of his band members.
