One of Nirvana’s most accepted songs, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was released in 1991 on their hit album “Nevermind”. The song could be found on top of the Billboard charts in 1992 where it peaked at number 6.
When Kurt Cobain was asked about the song, he had the following to say:
“I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. I was basically trying to rip off The Pixies.”
Despite such a unique sound, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” consists of only four chords and is quite simple to play even for a beginner.
In addition to the instructional YouTube video, I have included a backing track that should help practicing the song (and timing) a bit more interesting.
