“Born Under a Bad Sign” though recorded by many including Cream was Albert King’s signature song. It can be found on the album, which is also called, “Born Under a Bad Sign” which was released in 1969.

Jimi Hendrix – Purple Haze – Guitar Lesson

Released on the “Are You Experienced” LP in 1967, “Purple Haze” was the follow-up hit to Jimi’s debut song “Hey Joe”.

Many believe that this song is about drugs and it may be but according to Jimi the song was inspired by a dream whereby he was walking under the sea surrounded by purple haze.

An interesting fact about the song is that it contains one of the most misheard lyrical lines ever, that being “scuse me while I kiss the sky” interpreted as “scuse me while I kiss this guy.” Hendrix himself helped to add the confusion by sometimes during a live show singing it that way and pointing to one of his band members.

The Beatles – A Hard Day’s Night – Acoustic Guitar Lesson

“A Hard Day’s Night” is the title track to the Beatles first movie of the same name which was released in 1964.

According to Ringo during a 1964 interview the title to the song was taken from an expression he used to say.

“”We went to do a job, and we’d worked all day and we happened to work all night. I came up still thinking it was day I suppose, and I said, ‘It’s been a hard day…’ and I looked around and saw it was dark so I said, ‘Night!’ So we came to ‘A Hard Day’s Night.’”

The song is in the key of G and uses open chords for the most part. I have also included a backing track. A fun song to play.

AC/DC – Back in Black – Electric Guitar Lesson

The title track to AC/DC’s bestselling album “Back in Black” with over 40 million sales worldwide. It was also the first album to feature Brian Johnson as lead singer, released 5 months after Bon Scott’s untimely demise.

The song (and album) is a tribute to Bon Scott and with lyrics like, “Forget the hearse, cause I never die” it suggests that Scott will live on forever through his music.

In this video guitar lesson from Jamplay David does a great job of showing all the main parts of the song. The main rhythm of Back in Black shouldn’t be too hard to nail -down for anyone who has learnt how to play bar chords.

The Beatles – Day Tripper – Beginner Guitar Lesson

During an interview in 2004 with the Daily Mirror Paul McCartney stated this is one of the few Beatles songs that actually referred to illicit drugs, the drug being acid (LSD).

Covered by such artists as Jimi Hendrix (in concert) and James Taylor, Day Tripper is instantly identifiable by the cool main riff that is played throughout the song.

Not terribly hard to play even by the beginner, this song (or at least the main riff) is a must know.

The Beatles – Yesterday – Acoustic Guitar Lesson

Paul McCartney has often discussed how this song came to him in a dream. The story goes that while spending the night at Jane Asher’s home in London in 1964, he suddenly woke up with the song running through his head. Instead of going back to sleep he immediately got up and played the piece on the piano.

Not too difficult, it’s definiately a classic worth learning for the campfire.

AC/DC – Highway To Hell – Beginner’s Electric Guitar Lesson

The three chord classic song “Highway to Hell” was the first AC/DC song to chart in the United States. Found on the sixth album (also entitled Highway to Hell) released by AC/DC, it went on to sell over seven million copies.

Sadly it was the last album that featured Bon Scott as lead singer who was found dead in his car in 1980.

AC/DC orginally recorded this song in the key of G. A lot of fun to play, you shouldn’t have too many problems. I have also included the backing track to the song below so that you can play along with the band after you have learn’t the song.

Van Halen – You Really Got Me – Electric Guitar Lesson

Van Halen’s first single, You Really Got Me was a cover of the The Kinks first hit recorded in 1964. Eddie, who at the time was only 21 years old, did his own take on the song with impressive results.

The frontman of The Kinks and author of the song, Ray Davies was later to say that it was the better of the two versions.

This Van Halen guitar lesson video below includes both rhythm and lead instruction for the song. Additionally I have included a backing track for the song that you can use to practice with. Enjoy!
