A hammer-on is a procedure that causes a note to ring by using a finger to strike (or “hammer”) the note instead of using a guitar pick to pick it. Used in many styles of music, it is a very simple technique that creates a unique sound and allows for a string of notes to be played faster since each note does not need to be picked.

A pull-off is simply the reverse of a hammer-on. Instead of hammering down your finger to make a note sound, you pick a note and then pull your finger down off of the string to make the lower fretted note sound.

Hammer-ons and Pull-offs are both very easy techniques. You should be able to add these to your skill-set in no time.
